Workspace tags for Orca
A contribution to Orca: tags for workspaces and a newGroup by: Tag mode in the sidebar.
What is Orca?
Orca is an open-source IDE built for working with a fleet of coding agents in parallel. You run agents such as Claude Code or Codex, each in its own git worktree, and manage all of them side by side from one sidebar, on desktop, mobile or a remote runtime.
The problem
The sidebar could group workspaces by status, pull request or project. A project group belongs to a whole repository, so every worktree of one repo lands together. There was no way to say that a worktree of the API and another of the web app are the same task.
What the change adds
- Tags on any workspace. Git worktrees and folder workspaces can carry one or more tags, assigned from a right-click menu or when creating the workspace.
- Group by: Tag. One sidebar section per tag, gathering workspaces from every repo. A workspace with two tags appears in both; untagged ones go to an Untagged section.
- Everyday handling. Rename or merge tags, delete them, drag a workspace onto a tag to add it, order sections by name, manually or by agent activity, and see tags as chips on the cards.
- Scriptable. A CLI option lets agents tag the worktrees they create themselves.
Why tags
Real work overlaps, so a workspace should be able to belong to several pieces of work at once. Tags give that for free, with no groups to create or maintain: a tag exists while something carries it, and a profile without tags looks exactly as before.
